A Commentary on Contact Proximity Tracing Apps in the Context of the EU Legal Framework for Medical Devices

The commentary analyses the applicability of the EU legal framework for medical devices to the software for contact proximity tracing used for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. By following the European Commission guidelines’ five-step approach, it is concluded that the software in question may qualify as a medical device.
