Interaction of carbon monoxide with doped metal clusters

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

The interaction between carbon monoxide and metal-based catalysts is important in several reactions such as CO hydrogenation, CO oxidation, and CO2 reduction. Consequently, CO adsorption on metal surfaces and nanoparticles largely has been investigated. Current understanding of the microscopic mechanism that governs the metal–CO binding has been enhanced by gas phase studies of well-defined small metal cluster model systems as a function of their size, charge state, and composition. In this highlight paper, key experimental and computational studies dealing with the interaction between CO and transition and coinage metal clusters are discussed, with particular emphasis on the influence of dopant atoms.
