Raffaele La Capria’s verhalende interpretatie van de “napoletanità”

De stad Napels is in het œuvre van La Capria aanwezig sinds zijn eerste geschriften. Ze werd het voorwerp van expliciete beschouwingen in de bundel "L’armonia perduta. Una fantasia sulla storia di Napoli" (1986), die ook verschillende verwijzingen bevat naar zijn roman "Ferito a morte", waarvan "L’armonia perduta" als een ‘essayistische versie’ kan zijn. In het artikel wordt nagegaan hoe de schrijver de ruimtelijke aspecten in de bundel essays verwerkte, in een beschouwende stijl die terzelfdertijd ook narratieve kenmerken heeft. Het doel van La Capria was met L’armonia perduta in de eerste plaats een eigen interpretatie van het concept ‘Napoletaniteit’ te leveren. Ook het zelfcommentaar van de schrijver op "Ferito a morte", verwerkt in "L’armonia perduta", staat nagenoeg volledig in functie van deze opzet.

In the oeuvre of La Capria the city of Naples is present since his very first writings. It became the subject of explicit observations in the volume "L’armonia perduta. Una fantasia sulla storia di Napoli" (1986), containing also several references to his novel "Ferito a morte". This suggests "L’armonia perduta" could be read as an ‘essayistic version’ of the latter. The article examines how the author incorporates the spatial aspects in the volume of essays, making use of a contemplative style which at the same time shows narrative characteristics. The objective La Capria had with "L’armonia perduta" was in the first place to give a proper interpretation of the concept ‘Napolitanity’. The self comment on "Ferito a morte", incorporated by the author in "L’armonia perduta", is almost entirely in function of this purpose.
