Sagalassos’tan bir Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi lahdinin arkeolojik konteksti içinde değerlendirilmesi

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

In the summer of 2016, the only sarcophagus found at Sagalassos within an excavation context thus far was unearthed in a burial compound in the Eastern Necropolis of the city. The detailed stratigraphic information for the coff in, its context within the funerary plot, the inscription on it, and the material studies carried out on the associated finds allow for a detailed reconstruction of the life of this sarcophagus. What interests us most, however, are the human actors who ordered, created, used, re-used and looted the casket. By combining data yielded by excavations, material and epigraphical studies this papers intends to get an insight in find context, use and meaning of the sarcophagus for the diff erent people involved. Starting from its carving in the 2nd century AD, this paper will thus present the life of the sarcophagus all the way up to its looting and burial under refuse from a stone quarry in the 6th century AD.
