"De dubbelfluit" in het licht van de literatuurdidactiek toen en nu

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

Exactly fifty years ago, in 1968, the successful schoolbook De dubbelfluit by Anton van Wilderode was published. It was intended for use during class, as a workbook for learning activities and homeworks, but also as recreational reading for motivated pupils and other interested readers. In two volumes it discussed Dutch literature by means of carefully selected texts: in part one the period from the Middle Ages to Piet Paaltjens, in part two the sequel to the experimental poets of the sixties. The two volumes together were accompanied by a schematic overview, compiled by A. Roels. We examine to what extent the book was in line with the recommendations and obligations formulated in the curricula of that time, how it dealt with the tension between the literary and linguistic aspects of teaching Dutch as a mother tongue and how it fitted in with the broader educational views of that period. We also discuss some aspects with regard to content: somewhat ideologically biased views, references to broader literary-historical works, biographical notes on authors, the nature of the textual comments and the way in which the material was selected for the anthology. In conclusion, we briefly examine the book in the light of current views on literary education.
