Традиции и инновации в РКИ: Метод множественного интеллекта

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

In the end of XIX century, many linguists were attempting to improve the quality of teaching languages, referring to the general principles and theories regarding mind, memory and language organization. For instance, such researchers as Henry Sweet (1845-1912), Otto Jespersen (1860-1943), Harold Palmer (1877-1949) used many different theories to develop various teaching approaches and methods, representing the field of Applied Linguistics. Obviously, a lot changed in the modern didactics and methodology, and not all of the approaches of that time are still actual, but the question of choice of the exact method or approach arises nowadays again. A strong theoretical base remains essential for successful and effective work with the didactic literature and for the teaching process in general. In this paper, we provide a brief overview of several didactic approaches in linguistics, such as Total Physical Response Method, Audiolingual Method, The Natural Approach, Task-Based Language Learning, Communicative Approach, Interactional View and Neurolinguistic Programming, and make a detailed description of one of the most innovational, quickly developing and interesting approaches of last decade, which is called 'Multiple Intellect Approach', originally developed by H. Gardner. In the basic principles of this approach lies the idea of various multiple types of intellect which every person has in different proportions, such as for example linguistic intellect, logical type, spatial type, musical type and others. We provide a brief yet detailed overview of the approach's theoretical framework and offer the practical example of a lesson, developed in accordance with this approach's principles in order to demonstrate its advantages in the didactics of teaching Russian language, on the topic of grammatical aspect, which is known as one of the most complicated topics for the first year Russian language students.
