‘Nietzsche’s fashionable genealogy: an exercise in anti-reductionist naturalism’

Boekbijdrage - Hoofdstuk

In this paper, Tinneke Beeckman explains the different approaches Nietzsche proposed to the natural sciences. Although he was much fascinated by the new scientific discoveries in his 'second period', Nietzsche expressed a sharp critique of Darwin evolutionary theory. Instead, he prefered Lamarck's view on cultural evolution.
How can we understand Nietzsche's comments? How can they contribute to the contemporary challenges of reductionism in cultural theory?
