Impression management and self-publication

Self-presentation, self-representation, self-expression, self-publication, self-promotion, self-marketing, etc. are notions with distinct characteristics, stemming from different research traditions. Nonetheless they are often used interchangeably to describe our online presence and impression management. Although distinct, these concepts share a common theoretical basis, namely the "dramaturgical metaphor" proposed by Erving Goffman.
