De rol van benoemingspatronen in het taalaanbod op lexicale ontwikkeling

In dit project, dat bestaat uit twee studies, staat de relatie tussen intensie (semantische features) en extensie (benoeming) centraal. De eerste studie gaat na of feature modellen de geleidelijke ontwikkeling van kind tot een volwassen benoemingspatroon kunnen verklaren. Meer specifiek wordt nagegaan hoe taalspecifieke uitzonderingen het ontwikkelingspatroon van kinderen beïnvloeden. De tweede studie gaat na of feature modellen de verschillen tussen benoemingspatronen van diverse talen (Nederlands – Frans – Engels – Chinees) kunnen verklaren.

This project consists of two studies both related to link between intension (semantic features) and extension (naming). In the first study, the question will be addressed whether featural models can account for the gradual convergence to an adult naming pattern. In this context of lexical development I aim to explore how different feature sets can account for the developmental pattern of different subsets of objects: language specific versus age specific exceptions. The second study focusses on how to characterize the differences in lexical category membership (extensions) across languages using item features (intensions). In this project I will aim to address the question whether featural models are able to account for differences in categorization patterns across different languages (French-Dutch-English-Chinese).
