Virtual Load Sensing Methods for Efficient Durability Testing and Customer Load Acquisition

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

Durability testing and customer load acquisition campaigns typically involve a large amount of load sensors, which in many cases are expensive, intrusive and difficult-to-instrument. This work investigates an efficient alternative procedure, which consists of using less expensive, " easier " sensors in combination with a numerical model of the system, in a so-called " virtual sensing " method. The virtual sensing method combines the experimental and simulation data by a coupled state-input estimation approach, in order to estimate the " difficult " quantities indirectly. The envisioned approach is validated considering an automotive suspension component, i.e. a steering knuckle.
