Acoustic source identification in a t-joint at low mach numbers

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

The acoustic production by the shear layer in a T-joint can be obtained numerically with a combination of incompressible CFD simulations and acoustic analogies based on vortex sound theory. The fact that the flow is incompressible simplifies considerably the computation of the sound production in the shear layer, but limits the validity of the approach to low Mach number flows and acoustically compact configurations. Compressible CFD simulations are more suitable if the Mach number is higher and the T-joint is not acoustically compact. However, additional challenges arise in the computation of the sound production if the flow is considered compressible. This work presents a first exploratory study on the methodology based on compressible flow simulations.
