La dimensión subjetiva en el uso del verbo pseudocopulativo de cambio hacerse

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

Hacerse (literally 'to make-REFL') is one of the dozen Spanish verbs which can be used in a pseudo-copular construction expressing a change of state. With hacerse the change is not always situated only in the external, 'objective' world, but it can also present a 'subjective' dimension. The change qualifies as subjective when it involves the conceptualizing perspective. The latter is especially manifest with perceptual or modal types of predicate complement and can also be marked by the dative clitic pronoun. Instead of relating only to the subject entity, the change can then also partially affect the conceptualizer or even reside only in the latter. The aim of the present contribution is to show that there is a continuum between the more objective (or less subjective) and the more subjective expressions. The empirical verification is based on a corpus of contemporary Spanish prose.
