Ezéchiel Amani Cirimwami

    Ezéchiel Amani Cirimwami holds a PhD in Legal Studies from the Catholic University of Louvain and a PhD in Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He also attended postgraduate specialization courses organized by the Hague Academy of International Law (Public International Law session and directed studies, 2016) and the UNOG-ODG International Law Seminar (54th ed., Geneva, 2018). He is a Professor of International Law at the University of Kinshasa (DRC) and a Guest Professor of International Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Royal Military Academy of Belgium. He also acts as Counsel in several cases before International Courts and Tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and the East African Court of Justice. He also has experience in negotiating and drafting international treaties. Most recently, he played an active role in the Ljubljana Diplomatic negotiations that led to the adoption of the Ljubljana-The Hague Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes and Other International Crimes. The Conference also elected him as a member of the Drafting Committee.

    Ezéchiel has published in several international peer-reviewed journals and blogs, including Revue belge de droit international, Revue québecoise de droit international, African Yearbook of Human Rights, Harvard Journal of International Law, International Revue of Red Cross, The Military Law and the Law of War Review, Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law and EJIL: Talk! His work has been cited by the International Law Commission (ILC) and won the ICRC award.

    He is also a Public Prosecutor in the DRC and previously worked as a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law.
