- Etnic Minorities - Ethnic Minority Students in Higher Education. Current research OBPWO 03.03. 'Immigrants in higher education: factors affecting choice and success'. In Flanders scarcely any research has been done on the presence of immigrants in higher education. This research aims to make an inventory of their presence in higher education, their socio-cultural profile, their school career, their development of cultural identity. At the same time it is intended to investigate why immigrant students choose higher education and in what way this choice differs from that of indigenous students. The research equally intends to detect the rates of success and failure in education. This data will allow the composition of a predictive model and the formulation of advice on guidance and solutions so as to make it possible for immigrants to make the utmost of their chances.
