Scanner design and construction at UGCT

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

One of the major topics in the research on X-ray tomography within UGCT is trying to understand the physics and mathematics behind tomography. This includes simulations of the X-ray production in the X-ray tubes, and the study of the X-ray interaction processes in the sample as well as in the detectors. This provides information on the spatial and spectral characteristics of the entire imaging chain. Also the hardware aspects of designing and building CT scanners for scientific research will be presented. This includes how the underlying principles of tomography translate to an actual scanner, taking into account the physics, mathematics, mechanics and software challenges. Finally an overview of the currently available hardware will be given.
