Stabilization of metal nanoparticles by ion exchange resins and their applications

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

This paper reports the effect of the resin functionality and structure on the catalytic activity and leaching of metal nanoparticles in the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction as well as in the hydrolysis reaction of sodium borohydride. In both applications, it was shown that the resin functionality (strong acid, strong basic, chelating) plays an important role on the catalytic activity and leaching of the metal nanoparticles, and this in contrast to the resin structure (macroporous, gelular) that had no significant impact on these parameters. Moreover, all synthesized catalysts exhibited no significant leaching behaviour which indicates that ion exchange resins are ideal supports to stabilize metal nanoparticles (M-NPs).
