GALACTOPYRANOSYL DERIVATIVES USEFUL AS MEDICAMENTS

Alpha Galactosyl ceramide (aGAlCer) is a glycolipid that activates iNKT cells to make cytokines. These cytokines can induce the antitumoral responses (Th1 response). However aGalCer also induces production of protumoral cytokines, this is a problem to bring aGalCer into the clinic as an antitumoral agent. Another problem is that aGalCer analogs of the art require pre-loading on dendritic cells to maximize the biologic effect. This hampers drug development and clinical implementation. The novel carbanmate aGalCer analogs provide solutions over the art as they elicit a strong and selective Th1 response both in animal as in human cell lines. In a tumor mouse model, the analogs reduce tumor growth significantly. A particular element of the invention is that the in vivo effect is as strong when the compound is administerd without pre-loading on a dendritic cell (DC).
