Sabbatical: Albert Van Bael: innovations in the modeling of 3D printed shape memory polymers and sheet metal forming processes. KU Leuven
My research will focus on innovations in the modeling of 3D printed shape memory polymers and sheet metal forming processes. The aim
is to realize significant extensions of the functionalities of the software that we developed in KU Leuven IOF Knowledge Platform
“Multiscale Simulations of Plastic Metal Forming Processes” (2012-2017). The research on polymers will be conducted in collaboration
with profs. K. Jansen and S. ...
Biological characterisation of novel plasmid-carrying avian Chlamydia abortus strain 84/2334, a vaccine candidate for enzootic abortion in sheep Ghent University
Chlamydia abortus infects sheep causing ovine enzootic abortion (OEA). The commercial inactivated vaccines have low efficacy and the live vaccines can cause OEA.
We isolated strain 84/2334 from a parrot and classified it initially as Chlamydia psittaci. However, in depth genomic analysis revelaed that the strain actually belongs to a new avian C. abortus genotype. Sheep C.abortus strains have no plasmid, but 84/2334 has a plasmid, ...
The Death of the Good Shepherd and the Life of the Sheep in the Gospel of John: An Exegetical Analysis of John 10:11-15 and the Threat to Human Life in the Nigerian Context KU Leuven
This dissertation will focus on the meaning of the expression: τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ τίθησιν ὑπὲρ τῶν προβάτων in the context of Jn 10:11-15. The classical theories of Substitution and Representation interpret the text to mean that the Shepherd died ‘in place of’ the sheep or ‘on behalf of’ the sheep. These theories undoubtedly shed light on the understanding of Jesus’ death but the question is whether they are adequate to interpret Jn 10:11-15. ...

Determination of the degree of contamination of Toxoplasma in meat from pigs and sheep intended for human consumption Ghent University
Serum samples collected in project RF 06/6176, from Belgian pig and sheep farms have already been tested on a small scale with the Toxoplasma Gra7 ELISA to raise this point. The current project will cut trees sera tested so that we get an overview of the seroprevalence in Belgium. Animals (already tested from companies) will be purchased at different ages. After euthanasia, their tissue will be examined for the presence of Toxoplasma so we ...
Impact of forest conversion on the prevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato genotypes in the sheep tick Ixodes ricunus and the risk of Lyme disease Ghent University
Tick-borne diseases are a growing public health concern globally as their incidence is rising. However, the spatiotemporal dynamics of questing ticks infected with human pathogens such as the Lyme borreliosis bacteria, remain largely unclear. We investigated the transmission dynamics of common tick-borne pathogens, focusing mainly on Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (U+2018BorreliaU+2019) and the impact of ecological ...
EHEC CLEARANCE: Checking the excretion of enterohemorrhagic E. coli by treating cattle and sheep lactoferrin and prevention of infection by vaccination of these animals with a view to reduced human infection Ghent University
Blended CBT sleep intervention to improve sleep, ADHD symptoms and related problems in adolescents with ADHD KU Leuven
ADHD is highly prevalent, in adolescence daily life problems and comorbidity steeply increase. Up to 75% of the adolescents experience sleep problems casually related to increased ADHD symptom impairment, oppositional, depressive symptomatology and functional impairments. Most common sleep difficulties are insomnia, daytime sleepiness, nocturnal awakenings and nonrestorative sleep, often accompanied by inadequate sleep hygiene and/or spending ...
ADHD specific sleep intervention to improve sleep, ADHD symptoms and related problems in adolescents with ADHD KU Leuven
Up to 72% of adolescents with ADHD experience sleep problems (Langberg et al., 2017), which are likely to be bidirectionally causally related to increased ADHD symptom impairment (Becker et al., 2019), and causally related to oppositional, depressive symptomatology (Becker et al., 2020) and functional impairments (Langberg et al., 2013). Sleep problems become more prevalent over the lifespan. Thus, reducing sleep problems is an important ...
