Research Project. The Nepantla generation: identity discourse in the essays of the second generation os Spanish exiles in Mexico Ghent University
The project explores the identity discourse in the essayistic texts written by the children of Republican exiles in Mexico. This so-called Nepantla generation, after the Nahuatl word for “between two worlds”, is characterized by its complex and multiple cultural identity. Through a discourse analysis of the essays of a representative sample of authors from this generation, we examine how these ‘Hispanic Mexican’ writers managed to construct ...
Understanding how path dependencies, family dynamics and active labour market programs shape the labour market trajectories of first and second generation migrants : a multistate life course approach. University of Antwerp
The fine art of boundary sensitivity: How the second generation turns educational success into professional leadership positions. University of Antwerp
Bridging the gap. Exploring ethno-cultural, identificational and marital patterns among second generation Turkish Belgians through the lens of boundary work Ghent University
We contribute to research on the second generation in Europe through a study of the Turkish second generations' experiences, choices and narratives in terms of cultural practices, identification and partner choice. Drawing on in-depth interviews with the Turkish second generation in Belgium, we zoom in on micro-level lived experiences, and explore how they negotiate ethnic boundaries and structural constraints.
Infrared interferometric characterisation of second generation protoplanetary discs KU Leuven
In a binary star system, one of the stars is further in the evolutionary phase than the other one. At the point of investigation, one of the stars has gone through the red giant star phase. At the end of their life some binary stars form Keplerian discs of gas and dust with similar properties to planet-forming discs around young stars (protoplanetary discs). Around evolved binaries, these scaled-up versions of discs, called the second ...
Mining and refining of second generation biomass into industrial building blocks KU Leuven
Label-free imaging of cellular activity using second harmonic generation KU Leuven
The ability to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders is still being hindered by a fundamental lack of knowledge of the human brain. Moreover, the aging population will cause an even higher societal burden to come up with effective treatments for our nearest and dearest. The enormous amount of brain cells, which are moreover highly interconnected ask for a diagnostic tool with three important properties. The spatial resolution should be ...
First and second generation migrants' religiosity in Europe: individual and contextual effects Ghent University

We will address (2) the psychological benefits of religion to migrants, with discrimination being one of the major influences. These aspects will be studied examining (3) large-scale contextual effects. The subjects of this research project are first and second generation migrants in Europe.
Second generation lactic acid as a renewable platform for a circular bioeconomy (LAPLACE) KU Leuven
Within the LAPLACE project we will aim to convert abundant second generation lignocellulose (side-) streams from wood into the industrial platform chemicals lactic acid and lactate esters as building blocks for biobased materials.
