Projects
Robust control of micro-grids with renewable energy sources Ghent University
The project concerns the development and implementation of robust control strategies for micro-grids with renewable energy sources and/or CHP. Amongst other things, the digital control of power electronic converters for the integration of the distributed generation units in micro-grids will be investigated.

Development of a robust technology for safe water supply by in-situ disinfectant production with a (bio)electrochemical system coupled to constructed wetlands. Ghent University
Shortage on water provision, poor water sanitation, and the resulting waterborne diseases is a latent problem in rural areas in Ecuador. The present proposal aims to develop a decentralized water technology that fulfills the needs of water sanitation, and by complementary application of in-situ produced disinfectant, partially provide safe water. We aim for H2O2 and chlorine production in electrochemical systems for disinfection.

Mass-manufacturable locally resonant metamaterials with targeted and robust vibro-acoustic performance through injection moulding KU Leuven
It has become increasingly evident that noise and vibration exposure negatively impacts our health and well-being. Classical noise and vibration solutions are, however, typically irreconcilable with lightweight design requirements which arise from ever tightening economic and ecologic demands. In the search for innovative lightweight noise and vibration solutions, locally resonant metamaterials have recently emerged and shown great potential, ...
Kinetic-hybrid methods for uncertainty quantification and robust divertor design for fusion energy reactors KU Leuven
Simulation of systems of interacting particles is ubiquitous in science and engineering, but still poses significant computational challenges. In this project, we will study systems of this type that are modeled via Boltzmann-type kinetic equations that describe the evolution of a distribution of particles in position-velocity phase space as a sequence of free flights and collisions. In high-collisional regimes, simulating processes becomes ...
Development of a robust technology for safe water supply by in-situ disinfectant production with a (bio)electrochemical system coupled to constructed wetlands. Case study on Ecuador, rural areas Ghent University
Shortage on water provision, poor/inexistent water sanitation, and the resulting waterborne diseases is a latent problem in rural areas in Ecuador. The present proposal aims to develop a decentralized water technology that fulfill the needs of water sanitation, and by complementary application of in-situ produced disinfectant, partially provide safe water. The project will be aligned with local entities for integral management.
