VAD-patient interaction: from rest to exercise. KU Leuven
Heart failure is the first cause of death in industrialized countries. Despite the use of medical therapy a certain percentage of patients (PTs) will progress to end stage heart failure. In this case the ventricular assist device (VAD) is a viable therapy that nowadays is used increasingly not only as a bridge to transplantation, but also as destination therapy and as a bridge to recovery. Therefore, there is a clinical need to understand how ...
Improved classification of Alzheimer's disease assessed from the slowly propagating waves of BOLD intensity, the Quasi-Periodic patterns, observed in dynamic resting-state fMRI in a AD rat model at rest and upon sensory stimulation. University of Antwerp
DEEP REST : Conservation & restoration of deep-sea ecosystems in the context of deep-sea mining Ghent University
DEEP REST will investigate two remarkable deep-sea ecosystems namely polymetallic nodule fields and hydrothermal vents, including their extended peripheries. Four major areas will be investigated: the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ) and the DISCOL Experimental Area (DEA) in the Pacific Ocean for nodule fields and the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (nMAR), and the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge (AMOR) for active and inactive hydrothermal vents. These ...
Valorization of rest heat through a chemical heat pump Ghent University
Huge amounts of waste heat below 140°C are being dissipated in the environment. The project develops a chemical heat pump (inspired on the natural system of energy storage in cells) based on the oligomerization/hydrolysis principle. The heat pump is capable of recuperating about 50% of the rest heat.
integrated solutions to improve the quality of rest Ghent University
The project starts from the need to improve people's rest and sleeping quality to avoid stress and pathologies related to sleep disorders.

Rest in peace. Managing death and burial during the Dutch Revolt KU Leuven
Burials were explosive matters in the sixteenth-century conflict between Catholics and Protestants. Catholics insisted on the sacrament of the Last Anointing, a funeral mass and a burial in sacred ground, while Protestants rejected this ‘ritual industry’, and defended a sober ars moriendi and a interment in designated though not sacred cemeteries. For the Holy Roman Empire, the British Isles and France, it has been extensively documented how ...
Longitudinal developmental changes in brain metabolism of the neonatal transgenic 'Huntington's Disease' rats, s tudied with MRspectroscopy, at rest and with a challenge. University of Antwerp
Understanding the interlinkages between global food commodity markets and the rest of the economy Ghent University
This project will investigate the causes, consequences, and transmission mechanisms of food price fluctuations. First, the importance (and heterogeneous impact) of different drivers of food prices will be investigated. Next, I will analyze the role of biofuels in the creation of a connection between food and oil markets. Finally, the transmission mechanisms of food shocks to other macroeconomic variables will be analyzed.
