Business model development and resource management in the evolution process of new ventures operating in nascent markets. Ghent University
My PhD research aims to investigate the evolution process of new ventures operating in nascent markets. These ventures face the particular challenge to develop a viable business model and manage resources in a dynamic environment that is inherently unpredictable and ambiguous. By means of a qualitative research design, this research intends to unravel the microprocesses of the evolution process involved.
Strategic human resource management in schools: a sustainable professional development initiative for schoolleaders Ghent University
Quality of education mainly depends on the competence and work of teachers. At the same time schools face teacher shortages and high attrition of beginning teachers. Therefor, schools must be aware of the imortance of good Human Resource Management (HRM). Between 2016 and 2020, the research group Bellon (UGent) performed a study on strategic HRM in education for the Flemish Ministry of education. This study led to several research reports ...
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) as a tool for microbial resource management Ghent University
This project will investigate energy recovery from domestic wastewater through polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Following the principle of microbial resource management (MRM), we will research the processes and interactions within PHA-producing microbial communities and develop tools to steer community processes for a reliable PHA production. We will explore anaerobic digestion (AD) as a means of transforming PHA-rich waste into biogas as a fuel ...
Sustainable methanotrophs: from ecology to microbial resource management Ghent University
The concept of microbial resource management will be applied on methanothrophic bacteria. Natural methane-oxidising inocula will be transferred and selected under different conditions in high rate and high affinity reactors. Functional and taxonomic diversity of the consortia will be analysed. Accredited deposit and storage of these consortia will be developed. The obtained methanotrophs will be screened for relevant biotechnological ...
Integrated natural resource management for dryland areas - a case of Laikipia East county of Kenya Ghent University
Conservation agriculture (CA) and integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) are approaches believed to improve soil health and crop yields. Debate exists on which of the two approaches come first during implementation process and which pathway would result in better soil health and crop yields. This proposal is thus designed to investigate such questions using field trials.
Towards resilient cross-breed dairy systems in Northern Ethiopia: a resource allocation assessment to determine appropriate selection targets and nutritional management Ghent University
The introduction of Holstein-Friesian genetics is often proposed to meet high demands for milk in tropical regions. However, these ‘specialist genotypes’ are particularly adapted to ‘non-constrained’ environments and might suffer from seasonal variation in feed quality and availability, particularly during early lactation. On-farm monitoring, controlled experiments and model simulations are combined to assess responses of genetic selection ...
