Research on four types of functionally active proteins - Copper proteins : hemocyanins (involved in dioxygen binding). - Thiol proteins: metallothioneins (metal detoxication and donation). - Protease inhibitors: alpha -2-macroglobulin homologues. - Regulatory proteins: cytokines (defencesystems against infection). Aim: to determine, after their isolation or possible induction, the composition and the primary to quaternary structure of these ...

Fisheries and Aquatic Production Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
This research includes fisheries biology, fishing gear and aquaculture. We study the status of commercial fish stocks and give advice for setting the fishing quota. The ecological and economic effects of (new types of) fishing gear and alternative fishing methods are examined. We study fish/shellfish aquaculture systems at sea as well as in recirculation systems on land. Innovations are implemented using an integrated approach.
Leuven Chemistry, Catalysis and Chemical Technology Research Centre KU Leuven
Research topics of this unit are:
Catalysis of organic reactions with heterogeneous, homogeneous or bio-catalysts. The focal points of the research are zeolites as catalysts, layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as catalysts, Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs), nanoparticles of precious metals (Au, Pd, ...), Palladium, Osmium, Manganese, Tungsten and Molybdenum catalysts.
Important investigated reactions are oxidations: epoxidations, ...
Polymer Chemistry and Materials KU Leuven
Our research focuses on 3 societal relevant material classes: biobased polymeric materials, materials based on conjugated polymers and nano-engineered polymer materials.
