Study of the linear and nonlinear optical and electro-optical properties of 2D crystal monolayers by using the strong matter-light interaction in high index contrast photonic platforms. Ghent University
The nonlinear optical and photoluminescence properties of graphene and other 2D monolayer crystals will be investigated. To increase light-matter interaction, the 2D crystals will be integrated on a waveguide structure that strongly confines the light. We aspire to use these results to develop one or more proof-of-concept devices, e.g. optical modulators or optical parametric amplifiers/oscillators.

photonics@be: towards smart photonics in 2020 Ghent University
The European Commission has acknowledged the importance of Photonics by identifying it as one of five Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) for Europe, next to Nanotechnology, Micro- and Nanoelectronics, Advanced materials and Biotechnology. Photonics is an enabling technology for a wide diversity of markets: communications and information technology, energy, health care, lighting and displays, smart sensing and metrology, manufacturing tools.
