Motivic integration, the Langlands program, and rational points of bounded height KU Leuven
My research domains are algebraic geometry, number theory the Langlands program and their interaction. Number theory has a strong impact on our life, for example the internet, computers, information and code theory will develop, if number theory advances. A big problem in number theory is solving Diophantine equations, i.e. equations of polynomials with integer coefficients. With the development of algebraic geometry, the roots of Diophantine ...
Motivic integration and the Monodromy Conjecture KU Leuven
This project is about solutions of systems of polynomial equations and the effect that singularities have on them. The long-term goal is to understand why the numbers of solutions of polynomials modulo prime powers seem to be predicted by the complexity of their singularities. The Monodromy Conjecture is a concrete statement of this phenomenon.
A comprehensive model of job search behavior: An integration of the Motivational Self -Regulatory Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior. Ghent University
The research project aims to theoretically build and empirically test a comprehensive model of job search behavior, integrating the Motivational Self-Regulatory Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to identify the predictors of job search behavior. In addition, recent insight on the unfolding sequence of job search success are applied to add employment outcomes to the integrative model.
Towards a better theoretical understanding of learning from experience in organizations: An integration of cognitive and motivational explanations Ghent University
Although empirical and theoretical work has suggestedpositive effects of work experiences on learning outcomes, to date, it remains unclear how this relationship originates. Drawing from research andtheory on knowledge formation, I posit a model, which can answer this need. I aim to investigate the explanatory value of the model by conducting threeseries of studies using the reflection paradigm.
Belgian art of the long eighties transitioning from the regional to the international: Aspects of the Ghent art scene, 1976-1992. Ghent University
This project focuses on the Ghent art world of the 1980s, an understudied part of art history. During this period, there was a clear motive towards placing Belgian art on the map. An international narrative became increasingly dominant in catalogues, the popular press and politics, becoming a societal phenomenon. Ghent played a decisive role in this process, for example by establishing the first Belgian museum for contemporary art, with Jan ...
Behavioural change based on the self-categorisation theory: promotion of physical activity among sedentary older adults (intervention study among older adults on intrinsic and social determinants of physical activity and health-related behaviour). KU Leuven
Effects of motivation on visual attention: an integrated psychophysiological approach Ghent University
Attention allows to attend to relevant information in the environment while suppressing irrelevant
one. It can operate based on multiple cues available at a given time. Usually a dichotomy is
proposed in the existing literature between bottom-up (or stimulus-driven) and top-down (or
goalrelated) attention control effects. Yet, changes in motivation are usually not considered in this
dominant framework, although it can ...
The Involvement of the regular clergy in Flanders in the collaboration with the occupying forces during the Second World War KU Leuven
In this doctoral dissertation, the involvement of the Flemish regular clergy in the collaboration with the occupying forces during the Second World War is investigated. A first exploration of the topic revealed that an approach focussing on concrete acts would not be very productive. Considering this, we opted for an approach focussing on motivation, based on the historical work of Aline Sax. An analytical framework, based on a series of ...
Participatory decision-making in activation: contradictio in terminis or conditio sine qua non? KU Leuven
Over the past decades implementation and street-level bureaucracy research has shown forcefully that policy implementation is an integral part of the political policy process as a result of the discretion of street-level bureaucrats. For instance in the field of activation policy multiple studies have shown how caseworkers assign more resources to unemployed clients who have higher chances on the labour market (creaming) and park others (e.g. ...
