Integrated Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics platform for modelling marine renewable energy technologies and moored floating structures validated using experimental modelling. Ghent University
Objective is development of a non-linear numerical platform to deal with complex geometries and motions of Marine Renewable Technologies (MRT) under operational and extreme sea-states including mooring lines, PTO system and global control strategy. Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) methods are employed, validated using pioneering experimental data to cover knowledge gaps in MRT to achieve a mature offshore renewable energy sector.

Advanced Differential Surface Admittance Operator Formulations for the Modeling of On-Printed Circuit Board, On-Interposer, and On-Chip Interconnect Structures Ghent University
The ever rising operating frequencies and complexity of emerging electronic devices are making it increasingly hard for the design engineer to meet all specifications. The multiscale nature and stringent design constraints of state-of-the-art technologies can only be tackled by relying on computer aided design tools that solve the underlying physical laws, i.e., Maxwell’s equations, with ever increasing accuracy. In this doctoral research, I ...

Chicken manure leaching process coupled with high-rate anaerobic reactors: from modeling to environmental assessment Ghent University
A sustainable way is proposed for chicken manure management through leaching, managed by efficient anaerobic digestion technologies (high-rate anaerobic reactors) to obtain clean energy and biofertilizers. The treatment of this waste would have a positive impact on the development of Cuban rural communities, creating profits, and jobs and improving the environmental profile of the poultry process.
Modeling neutrino-nucleus interactions at the exclusive frontier of neutrino measurements Ghent University
The reason for the dominance of matter over antimatter in our universe is one of the most puzzling questions of modern physics. Recently, through the experimental confirmation of neutrino oscillations, for which T. Kajita and A. McDonald were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2015, we opened a new door to investigate possible explanations of this phenomenon. The essential observation would be a slight discrepancy between the oscillation ...
Modeling and manipulation of attention control networks during early visual processing Ghent University
Attention control is an important ability, which is achieved by two processes: target selection and distractor suppression. The goal of this project is to shed light on them using behavioral and electro-encephalographic (EEG) methods. To this end, we propose to set up a valid computational model. After this first step, we will devise a series of experiments that will allow us to put to the test the main predictions deriving from this model ...
Computer-aided kinetic modeling of supercritical processes based on first principles Ghent University
The chemical industry is looking into advanced recycling techniques to manage large amounts of plastic waste discarded. A new emerging technology is supercritical hydrothermal liquefaction (SC-HTL), which is a thermochemical depolymerization process converting plastic waste with supercritical water into liquid energy carriers that can be used in aviation, ideally in so-called sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Aviation is considered one of the ...
