Mode of action of house dust mite specific immunotherapy. Ghent University
The proposed project aims to elucidate the mode of action of house dust mite specific immunotherapy. We will address this question in 2 different ways:
- Ex vivo: in peripheral blood and at local tissue level of patients undergoing HDM SIT.
- In vivo: in severe combined immunodeficiency mice reconstituted with peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients undergoing HDM SIT.
The application and mode of action of probiotic Bacillus species in the larviculture of Penaeus Ghent University
The project aims at isolating Bacillus strains able to degrade polyhydroxybutyric acid and acyl homoserine lactones. These strains will be tested in the Penaeus larviculture in a combined prebiotic and probiotic approach.
Mode of action of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum agglutinine (SSA) as a new and eco-friendly strategy o control sap-sucking pest insects Ghent University
The main goal of this highly innovative project in insect and lectin sciences is to know how the SSA lectin exerts its high toxicity towards insects, or in other words the detailed understanding of the mode of action behind the high insecticidal activity of SSA lectin with the following specific objectives:
1. To identify the response and expression profile of different genes and proteins upon SSA application to aphids and insect midgut ...
Discovery and mode of action of novel plant biostimulants derived from agricultural waste streams. Ghent University
The demand towards circular economy for sustainable agriculture requires a rapid growth market of plant biostimulants. We aim to discover add-valued bioactive reagents that benefit plants derived from agricultural waste streams including by-products of sunflower and chicory. The mechanism of action and efficiency optimization of novel biostimulants from sunflower will be demonstrated for further field application.
The mode of action of Streptococcus salivarius as a key commensal in the nasopharynx and its potential as a probiotic treatment for the upper respiratory tract. University of Antwerp
Unravelling the mode of action of low-frequency electromagnetic stimulation in stroke Hasselt University
PHGDH-ASM: Phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH) activators as novel antiseizure medications (ASM) with dual mode of action KU Leuven
Local Rho kinase inhibition in murine colitis: mode of action Ghent University
Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibition is a possible new target in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). It is a pleiotropic kinase that plays an important role in inflammation and gut homeostasis and it is overproduced in IBD. This researchproject investigates the effects and molecular mechanisms of locally administrated ROCK inhibitors in murine colitis.
A proof of concept study for a novel mechanism of action to combat osteoporosis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis Ghent University
Excessive bone resorption by osteoclasts can lead to disability as well in inflammation induced bone erosion such as Rheumatoïd Arthritis as in non-inflammation dependent bone diseases such as postmenopausal osteoporosis. We have shown that sialoadhesin has a role in osteoclastogenesis as its deficiency or blocking inhibits osteoclastogenesis ex vivo in mouse and human and in vivo in mice, either non-diseased or during arthritis. Based on ...
