Freshwater species face increased exposure to heat waves and pesticides that may strongly magnify each other’s negative effects. We will address key knowledge gaps related to the evolution and mechanistic understanding of this synergistic interaction between heat waves and pesticides, to advance in general our ability to predict and mitigate the impact of multiple stressors on biodiversity and ecosystem functions.
