Effect of administration of mesenchymal stem cell on the afferent nerve activity in spinal cord injury model of neurogenetic bladder disfunction. University of Antwerp
Comparison of the immunomodulatory capacities of multipotent adult progenitor cells (MAPC) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). KU Leuven
Epigenetics and reprogramming after nuclear transfer of somatic cells and mesenchymal stem cells Ghent University
Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is the preferred technique to elucidate the mechanism behind cell differentiation and totipotency by visualizing epigenetic and structural changes in the somatic nucleus during nuclear reprogramming. The more differentiated the donor cell, the more difficult nuclear reprogramming. To improve SCNT efficiency, undifferentiated and epigenetically modified mesenchymal stem cells will be evaluated as donor ...
Adaptive hydrogels combined with mesenchymal stem cells to treat bone cysts in horses Ghent University
The presence of an osseous cyst-like lesion (OCLL) severely affects the sports career of a horse and its economic value. Thus far, therapeutic approaches fail to meet the expected demands in terms of functional recovery and/or absence of radiographic evidence of OCLL after treatment. In this project, we aim to restore full functionality of horses suffering from lameness due to the presence of OCLL and eliminate any radiographic abnormality ...
Understanding mechanotransduction in mesenchymal stem cells by proteomics. Knowledge transfer to implant osseointegration. KU Leuven
Cultured myoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells for customized meat design KU Leuven
This work aims to address several challenges that exist in the field of cultured meat research. In order to produce meat from cell culture efficiently, cells must possess extensive proliferative and differentiation capacity. This poses a question: which cell type suits this cause the most? Two adult progenitor cells will be compared: myoblasts and adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells. Upon evaluation, a chosen cell type will be ...
Characterization of equine blood mesenchymal and mammary gland epithelial stem cells. Ghent University
The isolation and characterization of equine mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells are the main goals of this project. A phenotypical and functional characterization will confirm that the isolated cells are genuine stem cells. The niche (or micro-environment) of both cell types will also be studied more thoroughly. Hereby, the effect on stem cell vitality and differentiation potential will be evaluated.
Bridging the gap between the physiological and therapeutic roles of mesenchymal stem cells Ghent University
To unlock the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), we will focus in this research proposal on the cross-talk between equine MSCs and tenocytes using in vitro cultures mimicking tendon lesions in the horse, as this setting allows us to study the three main regenerative mechanisms of MSCs: secretion of paracrine factors, cell differentiation and immune modulation.
Unraveling the regenerative potential of (equine) mesenchymal stem cells in a representative in vitro tendon injury model. Ghent University
The regenerative capacities of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multifaceted, and the insights into their trophic mechanisms in context of tendon therapies are scarce. In vitro models serve as important biological tools to study cell behavior under specific, controlled, and reproducible conditions. Unfortunately, no generally accepted in vitro model exists to date. In the current PhD project, additive manufacturing will be applied in which ...
