The KU Leuven X-ray computed tomography centre: a versatile and structured way to unravel the material structures and dynamic processes. KU Leuven
The KU Leuven X-ray CT centre expands her infrastructure with a new high resolution XCT device with large cabinet in MTM and a new, more flexible, accurate automated XCT scanning device in Gasthuisberg, accessible to KU Leuven partners, imec and Louvain-La-Neuve, to complete their search for the internal structure of materials and to unravel dynamic processes and to provide data for modeling.
Material matters: Towards a New Materialist Approach to Contemporary Performance Art. University of Antwerp
Material characterization and damage detection in layered media through the Ultrasonic Polar scan. Ghent University
Non-destructive testing (NDT) refers to techniques used in the life cycle of a structural part of their quality, functionality and 'health' testing without destroying the object, nor affecting its properties. The development of NDT techniques is constantly evolving and needs continuous improvement due to the emergence of new industrial materials, the increasing demand for more sensitive and more quantitative characterization and quality ...
Ab intio screening of suitable tungsten alloys as first wall material in nuclear fusion reactors Ghent University
Usually a material is extensively modelled in order to understand and improve its properties. This project works the other way round. A screening of a large number of materials will be executed in search of the right characteristics. We will focus on the most promising candidates. A test-case concerns optimal tungsten alloys for first wall materials in fusion reactors.
Investigation of a copper-based chalcogenide material for CO2 photo electrochemical conversion to value-added products Hasselt University
Identifying and characterizing (extra) terrestrial material using osmium isotope ratios. Vrije Universiteit Brussel
New material design concepts for tough fibre-hybrid composites: how far can we go? KU Leuven
Investigation of the mechanisms leading to interphase and intergranular residual stresses in multiphase alloys and their impact on the material properties. KU Leuven
A metallic alloy consists of different grains and phases. These different grains and phases will have different mechanical properties. When the material is deformed, this will result in residual stresses in the material. These are stresses that remain after unloading. The main difference between the grains is their orientation with respect to the sample (i.e. crystallography). For the different phases the morphology of the hard second phase ...
The material image-building of Erard de la Marck, Prince-Bishop of Liège. Strategy, components and significance of a versatile discourse KU Leuven
The adaptation to the required decorum as well as the creation of a personal image were essential components of the material culture of rulers during the Ancien Régime. To that end, a large set of tools was available that could produce an impressive variety of buildings, monuments, works of art and other objects that served the creation of the required image building. The present research project concentrates on the material culture of Erard ...
