Interactive communication of material and equipment design for fused filament fabrication: a multi-zone combined experimental and modelling study Ghent University
Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a popular additive manufacturing (AM) method which is mostly used in prototyping and in desktop 3D-printers. The widespread use in industry is obstructed by a lack of available materials, more specifically polymer materials with good mechanical properties and a good processability thereof. While high-strength polymers and composites are available and theoretically processable with FFF, easy processability ...
Characterization, modelling and optimization of the mechanical behaviour and failure of open porous material designs produced by rapid prototyping. KU Leuven
Modelling of material, energy and exergy exchanges within the technosphere for the development of circularity indicators Ghent University
Development of new indicators to measure the decrease of the use of natural resources and the increase of the efficiency of use of waste streams are envisioned. Databases will be a starting point to perform Material, Energy and Exergy Flow Analysis, which will be used to elaborate the indicators. They will be tested and validated in different case studies.
Modelling the Circular Economy - Integrating Markets, Material Flows, and Environmental Impacts KU Leuven
The aim of this research: to change government policies using VITO frameworks and a well-equipped research team to help remove key barriers to unlocking the full potential of the circular economy in Europe; to provide strategic advice to sector associations and businesses on how they can use their potential to capitalize on the benefits of the circular economy and to valorize the competencies on an international scale.
Integrated Material Modelling for Abrasian Resistant Steels Ghent University
The IMMARS project objective is to develop an enhanced numerical model to link the surface state (i.e. topography, composition and structure), the level of residual stresses at the surface and the microstructure to the abrasian resistance, by
- Lab-scale (open three body impact abrasion) and full-scale (cultivator tine rig) testing to measure abrasion resistance for different microstructural and operational conditions;
SYNergizing material Testing, modeling, cHaractErization, and SImulation Suites: a new generation of experts to enhance Material Testing 2.0 KU Leuven
Thermodynamic modeling of chemical reactions in material growth and etching KU Leuven
Across the evolution of different technology nodes, the continuous reduction of the dimensions of the building blocks of CMOS has been pushing the physical limits of the active components in transistor and memory devices into numerous ends. Consequently, a straightforward linear scaling of the dimensions does not apply anymore to all the aspects of the active components. An educated selection of new materials with improved performances and ...
MAterials design at the eXascale. European Centre of Excellence in materials modelling, simulations, and design Ghent University
The main goal of MaX is to allow the pre-exascale and exascale computers expected in Europe in the 2020’s to meet the demands from a large and growing base of researchers committed to materials discovery and design. This goal will be achieved by:
i) an innovative software development model, based on the concept of separation of concerns, that will enable performance of the community codes on heterogeneous hardware architectures, ...
