Applied Bayesian Pre-Posterior and Life-Cycle Cost Analysis for Determining and Optimizing the Value of Structural Health Monitoring for Concrete Structures KU Leuven
The general aim of this research is to develop a methodology for rational decision making in the management of existing structures, so that the limited resources for the management of infrastructure can be optimally deployed. A life-cycle perspective will be adopted, allowing decisions on strategies for inspection, monitoring and strengthening. Relevant uncertainties, which are unavoidable in the condition assessment of existing structures as ...
Applied Bayesian pre-posterior and life-cycle cost analyses for determining and optimizing the value of structural health monitoring for concrete structures KU Leuven
“How safe are our bridges?” Although a lot of research on structural safety has been performed during the last decades, answering this question for existing structures is still a challenging problem engineers are increasingly confronted with. This is mainly because a proper framework for assessing the safety of ageing or even deteriorated structures that can properly take into account the results from inspections and monitoring is still ...

E2COMATION: Life-cycle optimization of industrial energy efficiency by a distributed control and decision-making automation platform. KU Leuven
Improving industrial energy efficiency at European Manufacturing level requires the integration of energy data with advanced optimization techniques to guide a company decision making.
E2COMATION intends to address the optimization of energy usage, at multiple hierarchical layers of a manufacturing process as well as considering the whole life-cycle perspective across the value chain. To this purpose, it aims at providing a ...
Self-healing concrete to create durable and sustainable concrete structures Ghent University
In order to guarantee liquid tightness of concrete structures and enhance durability, smart concrete with self-healing properties is designed. Different healing agents and encapsulation techniques are tested and scaled up. Self-healing efficiency is evaluated in ( large) lab-scale tests and demonstrators. A life-cycle cost analysis shows the impact of the self-healing technologies on economy, society and environment.

Survivability assessment, cost redUction pathways and eNvironmental evaluation of offshoRe Installed floating Solar energy farms KU Leuven
Europe is currently in a transition away from its dependency on Russian gas towards a fully renewable, reliable, and low-cost energy system by 2050. To achieve this target, large-scale renewable energy projects are essential. However, the transition is limited by several factors such as onshore space availability to deploy GW-scale projects, supply chain disruptions, and concerns from various stakeholders around visual pollution and space ...
