Back to the roots of data-driven dynamical system identification KU Leuven
To obtain data-driven dynamic models for simulation, prediction, monitoring, classification or control tasks, in applications e.g. in Industry 4.0 and eHealth, most identification methods ‘solve’ an optimization problem, relying on some nonlinear iterative algorithm. Undeniably, too many heuristics prevail: What do we mean by ‘solved’? Where did the algorithm converge to? Is the model globally optimal, unique and reproducible?

Optimizing performance and welfare of fattening pigs using High Radio Frequency Identification (HF RFID) and synergistic control on individual level Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
How can we use an individual fattening pig’s eating and drinking pattern to automatically detect problems as soon as they occur? Pig farms have to be highly efficient to stay profitable. The pig farmer needs to closely monitor every individual pig to prevent and minimize diseases and behavioural problems, because these result in diminished growth and economic loss. One of the best indicators for ...

Peroxisomal biogenesis defects: identification of pharmacological treatments and endpoints in clinical trials. KU Leuven
By means of clinical trials, we want to arrive at the specific identification of pharmacological treatments and the determination of endpoints in the prevention of peroxisomal biogenesis defects.
IDENTIFICATION AND VALIDATION OF DRUG-TARGET INTERACTIONS USING CRISPR/CAS-MEDIATED GENOME EDITING KU Leuven
Drug discovery and development are cornerstones of the pharmaceutical industry. However, these processes are difficult, time-consuming and costly. Many new drugs fail during clinical development due to insufficient demonstration of their clinical benefit and efficacy. One of the major reasons for this failing is the lack of robust understanding of a drug’s mechanism of action. In addition, phenotypic drug discovery is experiencing a revival ...
Interactome analysis between Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its bacteriophages: elucidation of the phage infection mechanism and identification of novel antibacterial targets. KU Leuven
Education and sociocultural identification: Facilitating learning effects through congruence. KU Leuven
In most contemporary Western educational systems, sociocultural inequalities remain prominent. Nevertheless, the functionalist meritocratic perspective—which claims that by focusing on students’ own achievement, the educational system limits the privileges associated with ascription, such as wealth and family background—has further permeated the common sense in recent decades. This perspective has been severely criticized by interactionism ...
