Biodiversity and gender: the need for hard legal obligations? Ghent University
Biodiversity loss and climate change specifically affect women in developing countries. International law recognizes the role of women in biodiversity conservation. However, implementation is lacking. The research starts from the hypothesis that this lack is a result of the "soft law" character of international provisions. This hypothesis will be tested through an analysis of international legal documents.
Gilles Deleuze and Theology: A New Philosophical Mediation for a Western Liberation Theology? KU Leuven
Borderland nobility: between France and the Netherlands (1470-1660). KU Leuven
The onset of the end-Ordovician glaciation: chitinozoan and graptolite distribution unravel its causative mechanisms. Ghent University
This project uses the spatial distribution and geochemistry of the planktonic chitinozoans and graptolites to reconstruct and evaluate the climatic impact of the deflection of water masses during the onset of the end-Ordovician glaciation. It provides a test for the "closure of ocean gateway hypothesis", which is a recently postulated cause of Late Pliocene-Pleistocene glaciation.
RECONNECT – preclinical studies to rescue sequelae of exposure to chemotherapeutics KU Leuven
Development of a new point-of-care COVID-19 screening using exhaled-breath volatilome analysis. KU Leuven
BACKGROUND: The inability to rapidly detect SARS-CoV-2 infection during the COVID-19 pandemic inspired strict lockdown policies, resulting in unprecedented economic adversity and clogging the health care sys-tem. As countries’ fears for second and third wave outbreaks are becoming reality, there is an urgent need for globally available, easy-to-perform, non-invasive, on-the-spot diagnostic tests to detect SARS-CoV-2 and to predict COVID-19 ...
The effect of spasticity on reactive balance in children with cerebral palsy KU Leuven
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common cause of physical disability in children. CP is caused by a non-progressive lesion to the developing brain. The resulting inability to selectively control muscles, reflex hyper-excitability, and muscle weakness leads to gait and balance impairments. Children with CP have deficits in reactive balance control, which is defined as the ability to maintain balance after an unpredictable disturbance. Reactive ...
A precise spectrum shape measurement of the allowed Gamow-Teller transition 114In → 114Sn using a plastic scintillator and an electron tracker KU Leuven
For decades long, the Standard Model has shown to be the best theory explaining many phenomena in particle, nuclear and astro- physics. Nevertheless, there are still a great number of observations, mainly in astrophysics, which deviate from SM predictions. This has lead many physicists to devise Beyond Standard Model (BSM) theories, in an attempt to account for these observations. Many of these BSM’s include the existence of bosons with a ...
