Platform for Next Generation Screening in Quantitative Biology & Drug Discovery (NEXTGEBQBIO) KU Leuven
In this proposal we outline a state-of-the-art platform that would be among the first in Europe to combine the best in automated microscopy with advanced cell culture robotics capable of automated isolation, expansion and differentiation of mammalian and human cells, including iPSC. The platform will be unique in Flanders and will allow running quantitative image-based screens as well as screens for disease phenotypes using conventional cell lines but more importantly also on human stem cells, which provide the closest mimic of human pathology currently available. Not only will this prove ...
An integrated multimodal platform for brain mapping at high spatiotemporal resolution: 3 Tesla MRI infrastructure (3TESLAMRI) KU Leuven
Understanding the link between neural activity and human behavior is a central endeavor in neuroscience. Neuroscience research from animal models to human patients has direct translational applications: understanding normal brain function is critical for unraveling disease and paving the path to treatment. At our institution the number of competent imaging researchers is steadily increasing and this requires an expansion of the current infrastructure to secure future growth, innovation and success. Therefore, this consortium applies for a research-dedicated human 3 tesla MRI scanner. The ...
Necropolis United (Necropolis United) Ghent University
NECROPOLIS UNITED is developing an integrated, sustainable, non-extractive and open-source database that inventories reported dead refugees in Europe. It is integrating and updating source data from three different databases, each providing a fragmented dataset, with specific metadata: the list compiled by UNITED Against Racism (data from 44,764 reported deaths, period 1993-2021), the Missing Migrants Project (MMP) of the IOM (International Organization for Migration) (more than 35,000 reported deaths, as of 2013) and the Deaths at the Border Database (DBD) developed within a completed ...
Common Language Resources Infrastructure for Flanders (CLARIN-VL) Ghent University
CLARIN-ERIC is a European research infrastructure initiative that makes digital language resources and tools available to researchers and students, especially in the humanities and social sciences (SSH).
CLARIN-VL is a strategic SSH Infrastructure partner of DARIAH(-VL), for which it offers services enabling digital scholarship in the Arts and Humanities. Through the Dutch Language Institute, it is connected to CLARIN-NL and CLARIAH-NL, which already provides access to previously developed tools and resources. It is strategically important for Belgium to become part of this ...
Belgian Genome Biobank (BGB) KU Leuven
The aim of the Belgian Genome Biobank (BGB) is the creation of a genomic resource of the Flemish/Belgian population, with the objective of supporting and carrying out genetic and health studies, in order to enable future research on genetic causes and (risk) factors for human traits, diseases and their environmental interactions.
DARIAH: Integrated Digitization Workflow and Metadata (DARIAH-BE) KU Leuven
The workpackage .Integrated Digitization Workflow and Metadata in the DARIAH project will analyze and document metadata standards in Digital Humanities-projects in the Faculty/ies of Arts; explore setting up interfaces for the crowdsourcing of metadata; and develop a Linked Data strategy for pilot projects such as Trismegistos.
SCIEX ZenoTOF 7600 mass spectrometer Ghent University
The SCIEX ZenoTOF 7600 mass spectrometer includes a new fragmentation method, being Electron-Activated Dissociation (EAD). For proteome analysis, fragmentation of peptides, protein fragments and intact proteins is essential to identify these biomolecules.
Among other things, the Gevaert lab (https://cmb.vib.be/labs/gevaert-lab) investigates the amino-(N)terminal parts of proteins via a specialized proteomic technique, being N-terminomics. The identity and modifications of the N-termini of proteins determine, among other things, the stability, localization and collection of ...
SoundsGood! – An integrated platform for studying ultrasonic vocalizations in rodent models for brain disorders (SOUNDSGOOD) KU Leuven
Modeling human mental disorders in rodents is an extremely daunting challenge, given the subjective nature of many symptoms, the lack of relevant biomarkers and objective diagnostic tools, together with the early state of the pertinent neurobiology and genetics. The identification of new therapeutic targets is at a near standstill. We are convinced that a deeper understanding of the natural rodent behavior repertoire and its relevance for modeling human mental disorders is needed to overcome current limitations of translational research. We need to listen to our animal models. Therefore, ...
Inter-University Ultra-High Field MRI centre Flanders (In2U) (In2U) Ghent University
'In to you' or In2U MRI Flanders is an initiative of the 5 Flemish universities and the 4 university hospitals that aims to gain a deeper understanding of the human body, healthy and sick. MRI is undeniably a very powerful technique that is well established in the clinic and scientific research, but with the addition of an ultra-high field MRI system to the arsenal of the universities and hospitals, a new dimension is emerging. By ultra-high-field (UHF) we mean a seven tesla (7T) MRI scanner. With such a device, higher resolution images can be taken with applications in all organs. ...
