Mining multi-omics interaction data to reveal the determinants and evolution of host-pathogen disease susceptibility. University of Antwerp
Study of the host-pathogen interaction of the brood disease American foulbrood of the honeybee: virulence of Paenibacillus larvae and immunity of the honeybee larvae. Ghent University
In this study we want to gain insights into the molecular basis of virulence of the honeybee pathogen Paenibacillus larvae and into the immune defense of its host, the honeybee larvae. The intimate relationship between the invertebrate host and its pathogen will be unraveled using a combinatorial approach of different genomic and microbiology tools.
Proof-of-concept longitudinal follow up of cryptococcosis in mice: Assessment of host-pathogen interaction by using in vivo imaging modalities (MRI, multi-photon microscopy) KU Leuven
Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii (CN/ CG) have emerged as significant human pathogens, giving rise to potentially life-threatening diseases. Infection typically occurs when pathogenic particles are inhaled, leading to pulmonary disease. Following this, dissemination to other organs, particularly the central nervous system, can occur, resulting in the development of meningoencephalitis and/or focal lesions. The precise mechanism ...
Complex patterns of host-pathogen interaction: the role of behaviour in mediating the spread of infectious disease through structured host populations. University of Antwerp

Host-pathogen interactions: Leveling the inter-individual diversity of the immune system in livestock by add-on immunotherapeutics KU Leuven
With this project we aim to investigate host pathogen interactions that occur during infections of farm animals from the bench up to the farmstead. With a systems Immunology take on intra- and inter-host difference in immune response we want to develop a bio-inspired immune engineering strategy. This strategy will allow to translate the insights gained in therapeutic or prophylactic options such as vaccines, immunomodulators or drugs.
Advanced optical imaging methods to unravel host-pathogen interactions in mouse models of fungal (super)infection KU Leuven
Fungal infections in a context of pre-existing immunodeficiency or lung disease are often life-threatening complications, but our knowledge on the interplay of pathogen and host factors involved still contains important therapeutic, methodological and fundamental gaps. Host factors inhibit or facilitate infection dissemination, and we lack insight in this paradoxical role of immune cells. To address these challenges, we here want to develop ...
