Genetic translation studies. KU Leuven
After centuries of neglect, the translator is now recognised as a crucial negotiator in the international exchange of ideas. Accessing reliable versions of foreign texts is absolutely vital for international dialogue and establishing common grounds for the exchange of culture. Within this process, translators are regularly held accountable for their perceived fidelity to the translated text and for the success of its adaptation to the target ...
Genetic and pharmacological studies of two growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase-ligands in cancer: Gas6 and PlGF KU Leuven
Following cardiovascular diseases, cancer
represents the second mostcommon cause of death in the western world. In 2008
the world healthorganization (WHO) estimated 12,7 million new cancer cases, of
thosecases 7.6 million people die of cancer. Cancer is a heterogeneous class
of diseases, which arises from ...

Genetics and physiology of bimodal protein targeting in yeasts. Studies on the basic mechanisms and possible therapeutic developments. Ghent University
In this project we aim to understand the genetics and molecular biology of bimodal targeting of proteins in yeast. Whereas this mechanism has been described in mammalian cells, this is the first time that it has been found in yeasts. Bimodal targeting furthermore takes part in the acquisition of drug resistance in pathogenic yeasts, an aspect which is also addressed.
