Quality control of fresh concrete by advanced dispersion and attenuation characteristics of stress waves Ghent University
This project seeks a methodology based on stress wave techniques that can assess crucial parameters of the concrete performance from the moment after mixing, when there is still the possibility to adjust or reject the material before being permanent part of the structure. The investigation will be based on elastic waves (using innovative dispersion and attenuation parameters) and acoustic emission (AE).

Active control of concrete curing by acoustic emission (ACCCAE) Ghent University
Acoustic monitoring has recently significantly contributed to the understanding of processes in fresh cementitious media. The ambition of this project is, for the first time, to use the real time acoustic emission (AE) behavior to control the curing of the material, aiming at better mechanical properties and at the same time use the recorded data to make projections towards the final quality of the hardened medium. Processes like hydration ...
Development of viable 3D-printing methods for digital fabrication of reinforced concrete KU Leuven
In recent decades, 3D printing technologies have been increasingly used in construction. This is mainly the printing of individual objects made of concrete and steel (buildings, bridges). Owing to the fact that reinforced concrete is the main building composite material in the world, several additive manufacturing technologies have been developed using various techniques for combining freshly extruded concrete with reinforcement. However, the ...

Rebuilding home in different citizenship regimes. How Syrian refugees reconstruct their social lives, experience belonging and organise themselves in two European cities and their hinterlands. Ghent University
Since 2015 more than one million Syrians have fled to Europe. Government officials increasingly seem to consider sending them ‘back’ as soon as the Syrian conflict calms down. Yet where do Syrians themselves think they belong? The home they left behind is often irretrievably lost, and the memories to violence too fresh and painful to return. At the same time many refugees in Europe struggle to find work, affordable housing and recognition. ...
