Human factors integration in assembly line balancing and feeding models. Ghent University
Assembly lines are today ubiquitous for producing a wide variety of goods over various industries. On a tactical level, there are two important decisions: the assembly line balancing and the assembly line feeding problem. Although there can be some automation in the process, due to a. o. the need for highly flexible assembly systems, these still rely heavily on cognitive and motor skills of human workers. However, integrating human factors in ...
Changed activity and travel behaviour of people with Multiple Sclerosis: identification of factors based on dynamic activity-based transportation models, while taking into account personal limitations Hasselt University
Coping with barriers for late-career labour mobility in view of qualitative transitions. Comparative study and identification of success factors in policy models and institutional practices. KU Leuven
Role of angiogenesis and angiogenic growth factors (VEGF, PLGF) in portal hypertension and fibrosis formation in animal models of cirrhosis, steatosis and portal hypertension Ghent University
Models of portal hypertension and cirrhosis are used to study prevention and reversibility of collateral formation (in peripheral, splanchnic and pulmonary area), by treating mice with anti-PLGF and by using PLGF knock-out mice. Fibrosis formation and the role of hepatic stellate cells in the angiogenesis setting will be studied. In mice models of NASH will be the role of angiogenesis in fibrosis and colalteral formation studied in different ...
Digital game-based learning in formal education: Development and validation of a conceptual model comprising game characteristics, stakeholder variables, school-level factors, socio-cultural influences and learning outcomes Ghent University
Empirical research is growing about both the learning opportunities that can be derived from video games and the effectiveness of digital game-based learning (DGBL) in formal education. However, the resulting evidence is conflicting and inconclusive. A likely explanation is that the underlying theoretical frameworks do not sufficiently address the full complexity of learning with video games in a formal educational context. This post-doctoral ...
Use of insects as model in the screening of food peptides as food intake regulatory factors in the fight against metabolic syndrome in humans. Ghent University
This project evaluates the use of insects as model to investigate the potential of bioactive peptides to reduce food intake by interacting with the cholecystokinin-receptor. After enzymatich hydrolysis of food proteins, bioactive peptides are isolated and their activity on the cholecystokinin-receptor is determined using the selected insect models. Moreover, their in vivo satiating effect in rats as model for human.
(In)sensitivity to threat and (in)sensitivity to affiliative reward as risk factors for personality dysfunction and psychopathology: The first comprehensive test of a new theoretical model Ghent University
The new Sensitivity to Threat and Affiliative Reward (STAR) model provides a full picture of testable alternatives for different forms of personality dysfunction and psychopathology in the event of discordance across sensitivity to threat (fear) and affiliative reward. The proposed BOF study is the first study worldwide that is specifically designed to comprehensively test if the theorized interactions between (low) fear and (low) affiliative ...
The role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placental growth factor (PlGF) in the pathophysiology of the hepatopulmonary syndrome Ghent University
Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS), a complication of liver disease, is characterized by impaired gas exchange and results in increased morbidity and mortality. The role of angiogenesis in the pathogenesis of HPS will be studied by using a mouse model. Besides, a clinical multicenter study with Eurotransplant will be set up, focusing on HPS and portopulmonary hypertenstion in the setting of transplantation.
