Alliance Research Group: Experimental Study Literature Ghent University
The boards of governors of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University have approved a framework agreement that allows for a structural and far-reaching cooperation between both institutions. An Alliance research group brings together at least 6 researchers from UGent and from VUB (and possibly also from their association partners). These researchers are active around a common research line.
In defense of the Russian langauge. Discussions on linguistic experimentation in literature in the Russian émigré community (1917-1939) Ghent University
The proposed research project seeks to examine why during the interwar period linguistic experiments in Russian literature were perceived negatively by the Russian émigré communities in Europe and were replaced by a general preference for the normative language of the Russian classics of the 19th century. Interdisciplinary in scope, the project builds on literary history, literary linguistics, and philosophy of language.
Complex regular fractional factorial experimental designs: enumeration, evaluation and application KU Leuven
Whether it is to minimize the operating costs of a production line, or to optimize the taste of a new dish in a kitchen, experiments are present all around us in many shapes and sizes. Any experiment can be boiled down to the study of a system, where input factors are changed to see how they affect the output. In most cases, there is some kind of restriction on the available resources. There are many different types of restrictions. For ...
Constructing Adolescent Minds in Experimental Fiction for Young Readers: A Genetic Approach to Aidan Chambers' Dance series. University of Antwerp
Fictions of Bio-Messiness: Interspecies Ambiguity in the Experimental Forms and Spaces of Post-1945 Novels Ghent University
Beginning with the premise that literature offers a space for negotiating the kinds of complexity that often attend sensitive socio-cultural issues, this project explores moments of human-animal, or interspecies, ambiguity in representations of animal experimentation. Within “Fictions of Bio-Messiness” ‘experimentation’ operates on the levels of both content and form—that is, literature with animal experimentation as its subject and texts ...
Surrealism and the "Arbitrariness" of Metaphor. A Cognitive Approach to the Poetry of Two Experimental Generations of Flemish Poets Vrije Universiteit Brussel
A clinical-neurolinguistic and experimental fMRI study of the modulating role of the cerebellum in writing processes Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The Experimental Economics of Parenting: Evidence from Rural China KU Leuven
Early childhood—the period in utero to age five when neural and behavioral plasticity is highest—is a sensitive and critical period for skill development. Exposure to environmental risk factors (e.g., malnutrition or a lack of cognitive stimulation) during this early stage of life may lead to large inequalities in the opportunity for human development. An estimated 250 million (or 43%) of the children below the age of five in low- and ...
Fibre-Matrix Interface Longitudinal Debonding and Translaminar Fracture of Fibre-Reinforced Composites: Model Development and Experimental Validation KU Leuven
Fibre-reinforced composites (FRCs) have brought about a significant transformation in the realm of materials science, redefining the possibilities of engineering and design. The exceptional mechanical properties of FRCs, including their high stiffness- and strength-to-weight ratio, have enabled their widespread adoption in industries ranging from aerospace and automotive to renewable energy applications. As we look to the future, FRCs offer a ...
