Linking pathology with ecology to preserve commonness of a declining emblematic species, the common toad (Bufo bufo) Ghent University
Declines of common species compromise ecosystem functioning. The European common toad is emblematic for a common species in decline. Using a multidisciplinary (veterinary sciences, toxicology, ecology) approach, this project aims at unraveling the complex interplay between the causes and mechanisms of toad declines, which will allow informing biodiversity conservation.
ASsessing and mitigating the effects of climate change and biological Invasions on the spatial redistribution of biodiversity in Cold environmentS (ASICS) University of Antwerp
Resilience in East African Landscapes: Identifying critical thresholds and sustainable trajectories – past, present and future Ghent University
The strong temporal dynamics of the East African landscape and natural-resource distributions have always encouraged people to innovate and adapt to changing conditions. However, increasing population growth, changes in patterns of land tenure, industrialization, weak systems of governance, and global climate chnage have exacerbated previously localized environmental problems such as soil erosion, depletion of water catchments, loss of ...
The development of transgene Daphnia in a molecular reconstruction of a host-parasite coevolution. KU Leuven
Quantifying eco-morphodynamic interactions through space and time KU Leuven
This project will investigate how eco-morphdynamic interactions shape fine sedimentary coastal systems over a variety of spatial and temporal scales. The goal is to develop a detailed numerical model able to capture interactions between ecology(e.g. vegetation, benthic meio- and macrofaunal), coastal sediment transport and morphodynamics. Major challenges incorporating eco-morphodynamic interactions into numerical models are (1) matching ...
Het kwantificeren van eco-morfodynamische interacties door ruimte en tijd KU Leuven
EVALUATION OF LAND SPARING AND LAND SHARING SCENARIOS FOR THE GREENING OF INTENSIVE APPLE CULTIVATION LANDSCAPES KU Leuven
Connectivity conservation of arthropods under global warming Ghent University
The recent wave of studies demonstrating dramatic declines in species richness, diversity and biomass of insects has caused great concern among ecologists, conservationists, policymakers and the general public. Climate change, and in particular global warming, puts many insect (and other arthropod) species at risk. Persistence can only be guaranteed if species tolerate, accommodate or adapt to changing thermal conditions, or if they are able ...
