Pairing correlations in quantum systems: algebraic and variational approaches Ghent University
The description of the higher-dimensional Hubbard model in terms of pair-based wavefunctions is investigated. Possible extensions of the pairing correlations as introduced in the Bethe ansatz for the integrable Richardson-Gaudin model are considered for a possible use in a numerical implementation of a variational method for the 2D Hubbard model.

Early neighbourhood effects on the performance of trees in experimental plantations varying in tree species richness Ghent University
Biodiversity can affect the functioning of ecosystems and the services ecosystems can provide for
humans. A better understanding of the relationships between biodiversity and ecosystem
functioning will support conservation and sustainable management of nature. In the proposed
research, we will examine how tree species diversity affects the growth of young trees in two tree
species diversity ...

Oxidative and lipolytic stability of lipids in autotrophic microalgal biomass during storage and drying. KU Leuven
Autotrophic microalgae are unicellular aquatic organisms that immobilize CO2 from atmosphere and produce oxygen by photosynthesis. Microalgae contain a relatively high amount of lipids and are consequently a promising alternative source of biodiesel. The lipids from several microalgae contain also nutritionally interesting omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which makes them interesting for several food and other high value ...
SPATIO-TEMPORAL AND SPECIES-SPECIFIC MODELING OF DRYING AND DIMENSIONAL STABILITY OF TROPICAL WOOD Ghent University
This research focuses on drying tropical hardwood species more effectively and with higher yields. This will be done by using a mathematical model linking micro-, meso- and macro-level for dimensional changes under subsequent drying process conditions, calibrated using a matrix of quantifiable parameters derived from multi-scale mapping of the transient processes linked to physical and anatomical characterization of the wood.
