Unequal partners? An ethnographic study of Christian-Jewish and Christian-Muslim couples in the Netherlands. KU Leuven
Since 9/11 Muslims are framed as 'others' and Antisemitism has recurred. Current waves of prejudice specifically target Jewish and Muslim practices (ritual slaughter, veiling) while Christian practices are still privileged. Scholarly literature frames these ritual controversies as a conflict between secular culture and (orthodox) religion. What remains under-theorized is how current prejudice builds on histories of Antisemitism/Islamophobia ...

Liquid chromatogram couples to a mass spectrometer for bioanalytical applications. KU Leuven
A new high-resolution mass spectrometer coupled with HPLC for bio-analytical applications allows research of non-covalent complexes of molecules interacting with nucleic acids and will give service to other research groups working on small biomolecules.
Unequal Partners? An Ethnographic Study of Christian-Muslim Couples in The Netherlands KU Leuven
How do Christian-Muslim couples negotiate their material and ritual practices, and what does this reveal about the cultural archive of Dutch society, specifically concerning the normative “secularized” Christian assumptions and the dominant and privileged white Dutch identity with its connotations to nationalism, citizenship, and full societal belonging? By probing how a normative “modern” (and Christianized) distinction between “good ...
Unequal partners?! An ethnographic study of experiences of exclusion and inclusion of Jewish-Christian couples in Dutch society KU Leuven
This project examines religious hegemony in Dutch society by looking at the experiences of mixed Jewish-Christian couples. Mixed couples offer an interesting perspective into society because the choice to marry a partner outside of one’s ‘own’ social group transgresses community norms and thereby often triggers sharp reactions that reveal the prevailing norms within a specific context. An ethnographic approach will be used to study how these ...
Interpersonal Emotion Regulation in Couples Facing Perinatal Depression Ghent University
The proposal aims to examine (a) interpersonal emotion regulation strategies (IERS) in couples facing perinatal depression), (b) which of these IERS are (mal)adaptive, and (3) the interplay between IERS and other psychosocial risk factors. We will therefore use a combination of Multi-Family-Member Interviews, a questionnaire study, and a prospective ESM study, within samples of couples facing perinatal depression.

Implementation of an expanded carrier screening offer for couples KU Leuven
Carrier screening refers to the process aimed at identifying couples at-risk of having a child affected with a genetic condition, when they have no preexisting risk of being carriers, such as an affected family member. Recent advances in genomic technologies has meant that rather than screening for single disorders, individuals' carrier status can be tested for a large number of recessive conditions at the same time, and for little or no ...
