Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis of building-stock energy models : sampling procedure, stock size and Sobol’ convergence Ghent University
Despite broad recognition of the need for applying Uncertainty (UA) and Sensitivity Analysis (SA) to Building-Stock Energy Models (BSEMs), limited research has been done. This article proposes a scalable methodology to apply UA and SA to BSEMs, with an emphasis on important methodological aspects: input parameter sampling procedure, minimum required building stock size and number of samples needed for convergence. Applying UA and SA to BSEMs ...
Deep State Phobia. Narrative Convergence in Coronavirus Conspiracism on Instagram. Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Recent scholarship has established that conspiracist narratives proliferated in mainstream online discourse during the coronavirus pandemic. This proliferation has been provocatively characterized as a ‘conspiracy singularity’ in which previously divergent conspiracy narratives converged into a single, overarching narrative. Yet while the idea of narrative convergence has long figured in conspiracy theory research, empirical evidence has been ...
Towards accurate CFD simulations of vertical axis wind turbines at different tip speed ratios and solidities: Guidelines for azimuthal increment, domain size and convergence KU Leuven
© 2017 The Author(s) The accuracy of CFD simulations of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) is known to be significantly associated with the computational parameters, such as azimuthal increment, domain size and number of turbine revolutions before reaching a statistically steady state condition (convergence). A detailed review of the literature, however, indicates that there is a lack of extensive parametric studies investigating the impact of ...
Trait but not species convergence during community assembly in restored calcareous grasslands KU Leuven
Community assembly or succession was traditionally thought of as being deterministic and directional, leading to a clearly defined climax state. The alternative view, however, keeps gaining attention. This view states that community assembly is influenced by historical processes, where differences in the sequence and timing of species arrival result in distinct communities. Here we tested the hypothesis that both views are valid, but at a ...
European bank profitability : the great convergence? Ghent University
Have euro area banks restored viability in the post-crisis era? We investigate profitability convergence for euro area banks over the period 2009-2020 using the concepts of beta and sigma convergence and a club clustering algorithm. Our evidence is consistent with a slow catch up of the weaker banks, but we also document that better performing banks converge towards a lower profit level, suggesting a 'great convergence' towards the middle. ...
Markovian imprecise jump processes : extension to measurable variables, convergence theorems and algorithms Ghent University
The EU-China partnership: balancing between divergence and convergence. Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The EU-China relationship is driven by two distinct underlying logics: a power-based one and a transformational one. The power-based logic is premised on a belief that because of anarchy, power politics and conflicts of interest cannot be entirely overcome. According to this view, intercourse between the EU and China will reflect their relative power positions and display concerns about relative gains, making cooperation between them more ...
A signal‐to‐noise‐ratio‐based automated algorithm to accelerate kinetic Monte Carlo convergence in basic polymerizations Ghent University
Kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) modelling is ubiquitous to simulate the time evolution of (bio)chemical processes, specifically if populations are involved. A recurring task is the selection of the smallest control volume that leads to convergence, which means that the model outputs are accurate and sufficiently free from stochastic noise and do not significantly change upon further increasing this volume. Selecting a too high (safe) control volume ...
Kinetic Monte Carlo convergence demands for thermochemical recycling kinetics of vinyl polymers with dominant depropagation Ghent University
As societal interest in recycling of plastics increases, modeling thermochemical recycling of vinyl polymers, e.g., via pyrolysis or reactive extrusion, becomes increasingly important. A key aspect remains the reliability of the simulation results with fewer evaluation studies regarding convergence as in the polymerization or polymer reaction engineering field. Using the coupled matrix-based Monte Carlo (CMMC) framework, tracking the unzipping ...
