Discussion:
One of my key concerns is linked to communication policy: how can we bridge the gap between policy and practice in an optimal manner within the behaviour change cycle (BCC) in order to achieve sustainable behaviour change?
It is widely accepted that the behaviour change cycle(BCC) must include policy development, strategic planning, communication planning, ...

Behavioural change models for infectious disease transmission: a systematic review (2010-2015) University of Antwerp
We review behavioural change models (BCMs) for infectious disease transmission in humans. Following the Cochrane collaboration guidelines and the PRISMA statement, our systematic search and selection yielded 178 papers covering the period 2010-2015. We observe an increasing trend in published BCMs, frequently coupled to (re)emergence events, and propose a categorization by distinguishing how information translates into preventive actions. ...

Pregnancy-related health behavior of pregnant women with congenital heart disease: Room for behavioural change interventions KU Leuven
BACKGROUND: Pregnancy in women with congenital heart disease is associated with maternal and neonatal complications. In order to reduce risks for unfavorable outcomes, pregnant women need to adopt specific health behaviors. We investigated the pregnancy-related health behavior of women with congenital heart disease during their pregnancy. METHODS: As part of a large study on pregnancy in congenital heart disease in the Netherlands and Belgium, ...
Research on health behaviour change determinants in primary care waiting rooms and behaviour changes or artefacts related to this research University of Antwerp
The general purpose of this thesis was the study of tools to enhance health behaviour with patients in primary care waiting rooms. The time patients spent in the waiting room was used as an opportunity for a moment of health education. A systematic review on educative efficiency of audio-visual aids in primary care waiting rooms learned that audio-visual aids broadcasting messages using screens (TVs, computers, tablets, smartphones with ...
Beyond individual behaviour change: the role of power, knowledge and strategy in tackling climate change KU Leuven
Individual behaviour change is fast becoming a kind of ‘holy grail’ to tackle climate change, in environmental policy, the environmental movement and academic literature. This is contested by those who claim that social structures are the main problem and who advocate collective social action. The objective of the research presented in this paper is to better understand why environmentally concerned citizens choose one of these two types of ...
Health, wealth and behavioural change: an exploration of role responsibilities in the wake of epigenetics KU Leuven
The field of epigenetics is leading to new conceptualizations of the role of environmental factors in health and genetic disease. Although more evidence is required, epigenetic mechanisms are being implicated in the link between low socioeconomic status and poor health status. Epigenetic phenomena work in a number of ways: they can be established early in development, transmitted from previous generations and/or responsive to environmental ...
