Listening with age: disentangling peripheral and cortical processing in the aging auditory system. KU Leuven
ACT now!: Auditory Cognitive Testing to optimize hearing aid benefit Ghent University
The goal of the this research is to optimize hearing aid benefit taking into account the interaction between auditory periphery and more high-order cognitive functioning. It is focused on first, hearing outcome measures leading to insights with regard to speech understanding and listening effort, and second, the fitting and users of hearing aids leading to evidence-based
recommendations.
Functional circuits in the early auditory system: structure and function. KU Leuven
With this project we study several circuits and phenomena at the level of the auditory brainstem. The main experimental questions regard
- the processing of sounds that evoke a perception of pitch
- the effects of activation of the efferent system - which is a system by which the brain exerts control over the cochlea
- contextual effects in the dorsal cochlear nucleus
- sensitivity to binaural differences in the ...
Functional mapping of auditory responses in the zebra finch brain using spin-echo fMRI. University of Antwerp
Sound Streams: bioinspired artificial intelligence for learning in continuous auditory streams Ghent University
Inspired by neuroscience and biology, the project SoundStreams proposes to combine the most promising elements from models for auditory perception and learning to face the challenge of creating artificial intelligence from being exposed to a continuous sound stream. In contrast to most artificial intelligence systems, the proposed model will use internal representations that accurately account for the passage of time; it will learn only what ...
Seasonal neuroplasticity of visual and auditory system integration: an in vivo MRI study in starling. University of Antwerp
Neurophysiological relationship between sound intensity perception and hypophonic speech production in Parkinson's disease: unraveling the role of primary auditory perception, gating and attention. Ghent University
The aim of this proposal is to assess the role of primary auditory perception in hypophonic speech production in Parkinson’s disease (PD). 50 PD patients and 50 normal control subjects will be auditorily and neurophysiologically tested. The effect of gating and attention on speech perception and production will be studied.
Beyond vision: the influence of auditory and contextual representations on visual working memory Ghent University
Until recently, it was assumed that information that is temporarily stored in working memory is represented in a visual or auditory format. Recent research has given rise to doubt such an interpretation, because abstract categorical, as well as other non-relevant objectproperties are stored as well. The current project will study how non-visual information plays a role in visual working memory.
