Influence of residual welding stresses on the fatigue behavior of tubular K-joints in compression Ghent University
The fatigue susceptibility of tubular bridges, composed of circular hollow section profiles welded together in Kjoints,
is due to stress concentrations, to welding imperfections and to tensile residual weld stresses. Since the
residual stress distribution is largely unknown, this research wants to determine the actual distribution using the
hole-drilling method on actual samples, combined with FE calculations. ...
Reading motivation as the key to reading success? Studying the relations between reading comprehension, reading frequency and reading motivation and the impact of a reading promotion Ghent University
This study will investigate which theoretical and empirical validated model can explain the relationships between reading performance, reading frequency and reading motivation in elementary schools. Furthermore, the impact of a reading promotion intervention programme on the reading motivation, frequency and comprehension of elementary school children will be explored.

The development of reading networks in left-handed children before and after official reading instruction: a longitudinal study Ghent University
Lateralization refers to differences in specialization in specific cognitive processes of the two halves of the brain. Anatomical asymmetries are usually defined at birth while functional asymmetries are a result of maturation processes influenced by development and experience.
Reading is not innate to humans. Evolutionary speaking the brain was not made to read. Therefore it is very likely to involve important structural changes in the ...
Feasibility of iodine biofortified lentils in school feeding programq to improve school performance, public health and agricultural policy in rural landlocked regions of Easst-Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania) Ghent University
Iodine is an important micronutrient definiency poses social and public health concerns. Salt iodizantion is largely unsiccessfull in certain endemic regions. Novel, alternative strategies like (GM) buifortification are promising. This study will evaluate the feasibility of iodine biofortified lentils in school feeding programs and examines farmers and paents interest in orde to define relevant policy recommendations.
