Phytoplankton monitoring in the Belgian coastal zone in the frame of the EU Water Framework Directive. Ghent University
This program concerns the implementation of the phytoplankton monitoring of Belgian coastal waters in the context of the EU Water Framework Directive. It concerns more specifically monitoring activities of environmental parameters, the plague algae Phaeocystis and phytoplankton taxa cell counts. The methods for determining an ecological status are discussed in an intercalibration exercise with the other EU member states.
The execution of the Water Framework Directive phytoplankton monitoring of Belgian coast Ghent University
Monitoring of the species composition and abundance of the phytoplankton biomass, this monitoring is made up of 18 units, which are carried out on 18 different points in time. Each monitoring unit consists of: - The sampling of phytoplankton (chlorophyll a and phytoplankton taxa) - Determining the abundance of Indicator Taxa: Phaeocystis cell counts - The relevant environment variables needed for the characterization of phytoplankton - ...
Performing microscopic analysis and determine species composition of phytoplankton biological quality element for the Flemish rivers in accordance with the Framework Directive Ghent University
The mission aims to provide a quality manner microscopic analyzes and species compositions for the biological quality element for phytoplankton Flemish rivers, this according to the European Water Framework Directive. The phytoplankton counts should go through inverted microscope according to the CEN standard. To this end, -, cell counts are carried out up to 400 units; - is determined at least to genus level; - of each taxon are measured a ...
Elaboration of a reactive assessment framework for priority water use during water scarcity KU Leuven
The focus of this study is on directly practicable water-limiting measures in times of water scarcity. It is not the intention to also include proactive measures in this study (eg crop selection, switching from water cooling to air cooling). On the other hand, measures can be considered for the generic assessment framework that require certain prior investments (eg installation of pumps for pumping back water at locks). In the area-specific ...
