Coping with minority stress in the intimate relationships of lesbian women, gay men, and bisexuals. Ghent University
Stigma, prejudice, and discrimination create a stressful social environment that can lead to mental health problems in lesbian women, gay men, and bisexuals (i.e. LGBs) as well as lower intimate relationship satisfaction. HIV prevention among young women in sub-Saharan Africa: statistical and epidemiological modelling to unite biological, sociological, behavioural and epidemiological science Ghent University
The incidence of HIV is exceptionally high among young women in sub-Saharan Africa. This phenomenon is the result of biological, behavioural and epidemiological factors. Using data from Malawi, statistica land epidemiological techniques will be applied to create a constent, holistic modelling framework for these complex dynamics, and this model will be used to formulate implications for HIV prevention.

Clinical translation and evaluation of a novel prone crawl technique in the search for offering older women short, efficient and non-toxic adjuvant breast radiotherapy Ghent University
Adjuvant radiotherapy in breast cancer improves loco-regional control and survival. Elder patients
with breast cancer are frequently undertreated leading to a strongly decreased breast cancer
specific survival. Adjuvant radiotherapy is omitted for various reasons including:
• frailty of the patient
• reduced threshold for and tolerance of toxicity
• impaired mobility, rendering optimal radiotherapy positioning more ...

Assessment of safety and colonization potential of well characterized probiotic strains in South African women with healthy and disturbed vaginal microflora by molecular methods Ghent University
Alterations in the vaginal microbiome contribute to risk of preterm birth and increased transmission of sexually transmitted agents and HIV-mother-to-child-transmission. Exogenous supplementation of vaginal bacteria to maintain and restore a healthy vaginal microflora could lead to important intervention strategies. In this project different molecular methods will be applied to study how probiotic bacteria can influence the vaginal ...
Women with a deviant survival strategy? The life courses of prostitutes in Bruges (1750-1790) Ghent University
In this project the life courses of prostitutes working in Bruges between 1750 and 1790 are studied on the basis of court records, parish registers, probate inventories, etc. This allows us to add empirical evidence to the hypotheses of several historians and, hence, to contribute to the debate about the agency of prostitutes and their place within society.
