Towards a decentering of the listener in planning and design research: Attuning to affective sonic materiality for transitory railway space along Brussels Line 28 KU Leuven
Within a context of militarized urban transformation seeking sonic strategies for dealing with alienation, repression and immobility, the importance of understanding and operationalizing sound’s affective and disruptive capacities, is quintessential. A situated engagement with affective sonic materiality in urban planning and design research promotes a rethinking of the position and role of sound in urban development and simultaneously ...
The influence of competence and linguistic distance on default translation patterns in translators and interpreters Ghent University
In this project we will study the occurrence of default translation patterns, i.e. phases of relatively automatic cognitive processing, in the translation and interpreting processes by means of four experiments. The first two will function as pilot studies to determine how to elicit such patterns in both processes, the latter two will study the influence of linguistic distance and experience.

A woven fabric-based interconnection technology for back-contact solar cells with possible integration of smart functionalities KU Leuven
Photovoltaics are gaining large interest due to the increasing demand for renewable energy. The biggest part of it is the silicon solar cell market, which can be divided into two main families. The first one is based on cells which have one polarity (- or +) at one side of the cell and the other polarity (+ or -) at the other side. The second group is based on solar cells where both polarities are brought to the backside of the cell, ...
Ab initio simulations of novel 2D materials and interfaces for advanced ICT applications KU Leuven
To continue the development and miniaturization of transistors, new materials and device concepts are required to be developed. This thesis provides a study of two new classes of materials, superlattices and two-dimensional (2D) materials, to assess their potential as a replacement for silicon in the transistor channel. To perform this analysis, modern modeling techniques are used to provide an atomistic description (molecular dynamics, ...
Soft integrated ion-based circuits for diagnostics and closed-loop neurological interventions Ghent University
Responsive modulation of neural networks is increasingly being used to treat patients with auditory-neurological disorders and neuropsychiatric diseases. Yet, current technology burdens neurostimulation tools with bulky, non-biocompatible electrical components that require rigid encapsulation for long-term implantation in body. Recently, we created a novel transistor architecture (internal ion-gated organic electrochemical transistors; IGT) ...
